Leaving about 8:30am June 23, we motored about 4 hours to Bahia Candeleros (Candlesticks), named for three islands near the entrance to the bay. It is a wide bay with a high end resort, Villa de Palmar, at one end. After dropping anchor I was concentrating on some splicing and Peggy noticed that a nearby boat had used their air horn. We looked and saw that we were not where we had anchored! We had dragged our anchor about 200 yards! Luckily, there was lots of space and we were not in danger or hitting anything or any other boat. But we quickly started the engines and pulled the anchor. When it came up, the chain was wrapped around the anchor which probably prevented it from setting properly. I probably had put down too much chain too quickly, dumping a pile of chain on top of the anchor. We reset the anchor, thanked the other boat and now we have our first ‘anchor dragging story’.
We went ashore, ate a BIG lunch and bought some provisions at the (expensive) store at the resort. Then we took a hike along a new road that is being built. The construction quality was really high. Very nice stone work, retaining walls, etc.
That evening there was a big party at the resort. Lots of music, some sort of presentation and then candle lanterns were let go at the end. Very pretty.
