On June 13 we took a short hop from Mezteno on Isla Espiritu Santu to Ensenada Grande on Isla Partida. It is a large, relatively open bay which means plenty of anchoring space but also less protection from the swell.
The water was clear and warm, just like the weather. As it has been getting hotter, we find that we spend more time in the water. Sometimes it is for snorkeling, sometimes cleaning the bottom, but sometimes its just about being in the water to cool us down. Some afternoons we may go in two or three times with a quick rinse using our stern deck shower to remove the salt water. Then we hang out in our swimsuits until they dry out – and back in the water again! A pretty nice way to spend an afternoon.
This cove (Ensenada means cove) has beautiful clear-green water and red cliffs. We took a dinghy ride to get a better look.
Mexico is a very religious country and images of the Madona are everywhere. This statue was placed in a natural rock cavity to watch over the cove.
This one is even lit at night. I am guessing the white line is a wire to a battery and solar cells higher up.
The next day we took the dinghy to the next cove (Las Cuevitas) where there is supposed to be a rookery for Blue Footed Boobies. We found plenty of guano on the rocks, but no boobies. Maybe it is too late in the year for them to be breeding and tending their nests?
