Barra de Navidad

We motored the 5 miles from Cuestacomate to Barra de Navidad and pulled into a slip at the Grand Isla Navidad Resort.

A nice marina with all the amenities!

Being the ‘task oriented’ people we are, we got right to work. First was supervising a crew in a thorough cleaning of the boat. It had been a few weeks since a good wash-down and with guests arriving soon, there was lots to do. After that we headed to the hotel. It was important that we try the swim-up bar and other niceties so we could present the options to our guests when they arrived. 😉

Pat, hard at work testing the water slide.

The Resort Hotel was impressive. Built onto the side of a hill, the top had great views of the area.

Looking across the channel to the town of Barra de Navidad.

The beach was in a small lagoon. The restaurant menus have a good range of dishes (including some vegan) and the pools were very relaxing.

A very private beach with warm, calm water.
JC brings fresh pastries to your boat every morning!

Every morning at about 8am, JC, the French Baker, comes by in his boat with an assortment of fresh croissants (plain, chocolate or almond) baguettes, quiches and pastries. All made that day and wonderfully tasty! A great way to start the day. 🙂

The next day was for provisioning and seeing the town of Barra de Navidad. We took a water taxi across the channel, visited a few stores to pickup fruits and veggies and had lunch at a water-front restaurant.

Great seafood and margaritas!

And the obiligatory ‘name sculpture’ pic.

Barra also has a large lagoon that is a free anchorage used by many cruisers. It is a very safe ‘hurricane hole’ with good access to the town and served by the French Baker as well. 🙂

Looking south-east into Laguna de Barra de Navidad, a large anchorage.
