We pulled anchor from beautiful Paraiso about noon this morning, April 9 and headed south. The winds were good, if a bit on the light side. We had a great sail and saw a large sea turtle and a number of sea birds, mostly Boobies. We had not used our Code0 sail (a big foresail used for lighter winds) and the winds were favorable so we pulled it out of its locker and hoisted it. This was the first use since I made some rigging changes to handle the sheet on the port side. (Sheet handling on stbd is still in progress…) That worked well. I also made some changes to how the bowsprit is rigged and that did not work as well. The Code0 puts a lot of upward tension on the bowsprit and the lines I used for its stays down to the bows at the waterline, were too stretchy so the end of the pole crept up about 18 inches which put other forces out of alignment. So we pulled down the Code0 and I will re-rig either with the original cables or some dyneeema (strong, non-stretchy line).
We dropped anchor at about 6pm (its light here until 8pm, with daylight savings time) in Tenacatita.
Looks like a mid-sized beach town, lots of kids and umbrellas on the beach.
We will explore this area for the next couple days.
Anchorage: Large enough for dozens of boats. 10 to 30 ft, sand bottom, good holding. Supposed to be a bit rolly.
