On May 2 we took a day trip to Tequila with our friends, Kim & Jamie from ‘Amazing Grace III’. We rented a car and drove 3+ hours through winding mountainous roads with great views of the countryside.
Most towns here have a ‘name sculpture’ and Tequila is no exception.
There is a nice old town area with cobblestone streets and everything Tequila related. Museums on the history and process, tasting rooms, shops with very ornate and artistic bottles and even small tour busses shaped like Tequila bottles.
Outside the town is acres and acres of the blue agave that Tequila is made from. It takes about 7 years from planting to harvest.
We had lunch on the town square where dancers did a traditional music show hanging upside down twirling from a pole. (see video here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/dYwxHrcWanYgdd7J7 )
There were also some nice sculptures.
Although it was a lot of driving, we had a great road trip seeing some of historic Mexico.
