Back in Puerto Escondido

It was an easy 45nm trip from Santo Domingo to San Juanico. We arrived early afternoon and jumped right in for a good snorkel. It was hot so I slept on deck, watching the stars. The next morning we pulled anchor early and were out before 8am for the 35nm trip to Puerto Escondido. On the way we went through a huge pod of dolphins. There must have been several hundred all busily hunting. They appeared to be all along an area where two currents met. This is often were fish congregate.

A few of the hundreds of dolphins

We arrived in Puerto Escondido, filled the diesel tanks and were in our slip by 3pm. We did a few chores and headed to the swimming pool for a cooling dip. So nice.

We will be working on repairs and cleaning for a few days. Yesterday I replaced a pump for the stbd hull air conditioning. That is where we sleep, so its really nice to have AC some nights when the low is 84 degrees and humid. Today I will change the oil on both engines and replace a damaged piece of the track that holds our main sail. There is also a fair amount of work needed any time you leave a boat in hurricane season. Even though this is a very safe, well protected marina, you still need to remove anything that could blow away or add ‘windage’ to the boat. This includes all our clear plastic enclosures around the helm, the jib sail, the cockpit shades, cockpit cushions, etc. We also need to tie the boat really well, with extra doc lines and fenders. Should get most of that done by tomorrow.

We fly to San Diego on Saturday, Aug 14 and should be there about a month.
