Back in Taiohae

Back in Taiohae, time to get some work done! I did a lot of walking to hardware stores looking for the special fitting needed to hook up to propane tanks here. The connector is different from what we have in the US and Mexico and we need this for cooking. After running all over town, I finally found a fitting that might work.

Special fitting for local propane tanks.

I say *might* because I still don’t know. We were able to get a chandlery to fill our tanks a few islands later so I have not had to use this to try to ‘gravity feed’ from local tanks.

Tiki TuHiva

A few years ago there was a contest to design a tiki to go on a hill above the town. This is the result and, unfortunately, nobody likes it. But it does seem to be here to stay, regardless.

One night there was a festival with music, games and food. It included a movie about the life of a local man who put great effort into resurrecting the cultural heritage of the Marquesan people.

He was successful in promoting traditional music, dance, art, architecture and preserving archeological sites. There was also a ‘Haka’ dance that I got on video which you can see here.
