Heading south

After a beautiful sunrise in Puerto Escondido on Oct 4, we pulled out of our slip to start heading south.

The first day was very short, about 4 nm to Divorce Cove on Isla Danzante. I think it has that name to differentiate it from Honeymoon Cove about 1/2 mile to the north.

Divorce Cove has good protection from wind and waves from any direction except west.

We dropped anchor in 15 ft of clear water and jumped right in. Some really good snorkeling!

Some sort of moray eel

After  very quiet night with lots of stars, we went up around the top of Danzante and headed south towards Isla Monserrat. We had heard good things about Yellowstone Beach and wanted to take a look.

Yellowstone Beach – pretty but not great protection

It looked like a nice place for a day sail and snorkel but not great for overnight so we kept going. When we got to Candeleros Chico, one of our favorite small coves, we found it was taken by a very large motor yacht so we went up and around the corner to Bahia Candeleros and dropped anchor in front of the Villa del Palmar resort.

The next morning we took the kayaks to the beach and went for a hike.

Well marked and maintained trail

Great hike with views and rest stops!

The hike was about 2 hours with some good steep climbs but all well marked and maintained. Back at the resort we went to the market for a some fruit and veggies, then back to Calista.
