On the morning of March 18, Raiatea Carenage (RC) told us they could do our haulout that afternoon. So we pulled anchor and motored over (orange path from last photo of previous post). On March 11 we pulled anchor from Tapuamu Bay and went around the northern part of Taha’a. After going almost 15 nm (in yellow below) we anchored near another snorkeling area that is also called ‘Coral Gardens’. We got in the dinghy and headed there (red line on map) for a really nice few hours of drifting with the fish.
Early on March 9, we pulled anchor and motored about 10 nm to Tapuamu Bay on the west side of Taha’a, the island just north of Raiatea. The bay is pretty deep very close to shore so we were happy to find a mooring ball we could tie up to. Otherwise we would have had to drop the anchor in
We pulled anchor about 8am March 6 and headed out of Cooks Bay towards Raiatea, a distance of about 120 nm. The wind was light initially but got to about 15 knots after an hour so we put up the sails and the wind pushed us along nicely – for about 3 hours when the wind died. Sails down, motor
On March 4, after a few very nice days in Opunohu Bay, we pulled anchor and moved a few miles east to Cooks Bay. The name is a bit curious because there is no record of Captain Cook ever entering this bay but….. Exiting the bay, we passed a cruise ship, the Paul Gauguin, that mostly travels within French Polynesia.
At 11am Feb 29 (Leap Day!) we cast off the dock lines and headed out of Marina Tahina in Tahiti, bound for Moorea! We left via the pass just south of the marina to avoid going through the controlled space near the airport and into Papeete harbor where it can get a bit crowded. It was an easy exit and
I will be flying from San Diego to Tahiti on Feb14 / 15. Peggy will follow a week later. I have two large bags to check, full of supplies and equipment. The piece I am most excited about is our new Starlink satellite dish. I hope to get that setup quickly and have good internet from then on. Difficult internet
