We got to the pass into Raroia about 14:00, a bit later than we wanted but the entrance was well marked and plenty wide. Very little current when we went through. Once inside, it was a maze of baumies although the channel was well marked. The real problem was finding a place to anchor. We cruised around for about 45 minutes before settling on a place that was about 30 ft deep and closer to baumies than we’d have preferred. But the anchor is down and holding, just off a small village. There is one other boat here, another cat. We met Ben and Martin who told us they have 6 on board, from 6 different countries.
Before entering the pass, we decided to replace the faulty starter motor on the stbd engine, wanting to have both engines running while going through the pass. We had to slow down and bear away to make sure a wave would not sweep into the open engine bay, but Don quickly pulled out the old starter and put in the new. And the engine started right up.
Looking forward to a glass of wine and a nice sleep tonight.
