Snorkeling, Hiking and Hopping from Bay to Bay

Oct19 we motored a few miles from Costa Baja to Caleta Lobos and dropped anchor.

Calm, clear water in Caleta Lobos

The water was warm (93 degrees) and fairly clear. We spent several days snorkeling and hiking.

View from the trail. Calista is on the right.

There were some great views and nice flowers on the trail.

There were lots of King Angelfish who seemed quite happy to hang around for me to take their picture.

Some big schools of Mexican Goatfish
A Sergeant Major
Cortez Rainbow Wrasse in the ‘Terminal Phase’ (large blue with yellow bar) and the ‘Initial Phase’ (two smaller fish with horizontal stripes)
A group of Graybar Grunts
The largest school of Threebanded Butterflyfish I have seen
A Cortez Rainbow Wrasse with very distinctive markings on the pectoral fins

After 3 nights in Lobos (with limited cell / internet coverage), we moved out to Ensenada Grande, about 20nm north on Isla Partida (where there was no cell / internet). Again, nice hiking and great snorkeling.

Not sure what this is…
Or this…

We took a long hike that was very well marked but had some scrambles up and down boulders. At the end we were rewarded with great views from an overlook.

Starts with a good map.
Many of the plants were identified
And a great overlook of the eastern edge of the island.

On Oct24 we moved a few short miles to Caleta Partida, the cove and channel that split Isla Partida from Isla Espiritu Santo for more hiking and snorkeling. We hung out there for only one day and decided we needed a cell / internet signal so on Oct25 we sailed about 15 nm to Bahia Falsa, close to La Paz. Here we could catch a bus or taxi into town and we had good internet so we could get back in touch with the world (and work on blogs like this!).
