Taipivai Bay

We left Anaho Bay, retracing our path from the day before.

Out of Anaho Bay, heading south.

One night and a good hike in Taipivai Valley.

The jungle is taking back the space carved out by man

We went to see the waterfall but it was disappointing, more of a pond with falls up the canyon.

A refreshing dip, not too many mossies!
A cultural center in Taipivai

Taipivai is the setting for Herman Melville’s book Typee. It was part fiction, part based on his time living in this valley in 1842.

Looking south, Calista is center, right. Good calm anchorage.
Back in Taiohae

We sailed back to Taiohae the next morning.
