Anchor up and on the way by 7:30am, coffee in hand, heading south towards Bahia de los Muertos (Bay of the Dead – must be a story about that…), about 35 nautical miles. It was a somewhat gusty day with winds ranging from under 10 knots to the high twenties. When we were in the channel between Isla Ceralvo and Baja, the winds were especially strong and unpredictable. Made for an exciting day!
We dropped anchor in Los Muertes well before dark (anchoring in the dark is rarely a good idea…). There were already a number of boats in the bay, including several Nordhavens, which are very solid and comfortable long-range cruising powerboats.
We had lunch with several of the Nordhaven crew and swapped stories and pointers on local cruising spots.
The bay has a few mansions a couple restaurants and a resort.
The resort had a nice restaurant, gym, tennis, pool, kiddie play area and lots of soft white sand. We took a walk to a small chapel up on the hill above.
We were in Los Muertos for two nights, Jan 7 & 8.
